Access Control Systems in New Jersey

Decide who gets in, when, and through which door, and change it from your phone.

Access Control & Intercoms, example installation by Smart Tech

Keys get copied, lost and never returned. Access control replaces them with credentials you can add or cancel in seconds, and it keeps a record of every door opened.

We install door access and video intercom systems for offices, medical practices, apartment and condo buildings, warehouses and homes across New Jersey.

What we install

Card and fob readers, keypads and mobile credentials that open the door from an app. Electric strikes, magnetic locks and the request-to-exit hardware that goes with them. Controllers and power supplies with battery backup, and cloud or on-site software to manage people and schedules.

For buildings with many tenants we set up separate groups and schedules, so a tenant can only open the doors that belong to them and the front door only during the hours you set.

Video intercoms and door stations

A video intercom lets a visitor ring a unit, an office or a phone, and lets you see who is there before you buzz them in. We install them at front doors, gates and lobbies, and connect them to the access system so one app runs both.

Working with your cameras and fire alarm

Access control works best next to cameras, so every door event can be checked against video. We connect the two when the systems allow it.

Locked doors also have to release when the fire alarm goes off and let people out without a card. We plan that from the start and coordinate with your fire alarm contractor so the doors meet code and pass inspection.

How a project works

We walk every door with you and look at the door, frame and existing hardware, because that decides which lock will work. You get a written estimate door by door. On install we mount the hardware, run cable to each door, program users and schedules, and train whoever will manage the system.

What affects the price

The number of doors, the type of doors and frames (glass, steel, wood), whether the doors need new lock hardware, the distance back to the controller, and whether you choose cloud software with a yearly license or an on-site system. Each door is priced separately on the estimate.

Why NJ clients pick Smart Tech

We have been doing low-voltage work since 2004, from our office in Kenilworth, NJ. The technicians on your job are BICSI-trained and manufacturer-certified, and we are fully insured.

We answer the phone, we show up when we say we will, and we leave the ceiling and the closet cleaner than we found them. Every job ends with a walk-through, a short training session and documentation you can hand to the next person who needs it. For critical systems we offer 24/7 emergency support.

Most of our work is in Union, Essex and Morris counties, and we take projects across New Jersey and in parts of New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Frequently Asked

  • Cloud or on-site software: which is better?

Cloud systems let you manage doors from anywhere and are easier to update, with a yearly license per door. On-site systems avoid the subscription. We explain both and recommend based on how many doors and sites you have.

  • What happens if someone loses a fob or card?

You cancel it in the app in a few seconds and issue a new one. No locks to change.

  • Do the doors still work when the power goes out?

We install battery backup for the controllers and locks, and we choose fail-safe or fail-secure locks door by door depending on whether the door must unlock or stay locked without power.

  • Can I start with one or two doors and add more later?

Yes. We size the controller so more doors can be added without starting over.

  • Do you install intercoms for apartment and condo buildings?

Yes. We install video intercoms with a directory for each unit, connected to residents’ phones, and tie them into the building access system.

  • Will it work with my existing doors?

Usually. We check each door and frame on the walk-through. Some doors need new lock hardware, and that is listed on the estimate.
